Minor skin burns or a first-degree burn damages the upper skin layer. Even though painful, this form of burn responds effectively to home treatment. It is vital to keep the burn site clean to prevent infection.
In case blisters form or triggers pain that does not settle with home remedies or if the burn is on the face, a doctor should be seen right away.
Cooling minor skin burns
The affected area should be placed under cool running water to provide immediate relief to the pain. Hold the area under the water for 5-10 minutes for the best results. Just make sure that the tap is turned to a slow flow that does not cause any discomfort.
Application of aloe vera
The gel from the actual aloe vera plant or creams made of the gel can help soothe minor skin burns as well as stop the pain. Dab the gel on the burn site 3-4 times a day.
Pain-relief measures
An over-the-counter pain medication such as aspirin, ibuprofen or acetaminophen can be given to provide relief for minor skin burns. Remember not to provide aspirin to children below 18 years of age.
Spices and herbs
A specific spice known as turmeric is used to prepare mustard and an ingredient in curry powder. It helps lessen the inflammation and reduce the pain.
Make sure that the burn is cared for as soon as possible to promote faster healing and prevent any issues from arising.
