Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)

Dangerous Goods in Canada

Transporting dangerous goods in Canada is governed by a number of legislations on occupational health and safety. While a certain amount of risk is present in every job, when a person directly handles hazardous goods, this risk becomes greater and complications from a injury or damage becomes worse. This has led to the creation of the TDG program, which stands for Transportation of Dangerous Goods.

TDG training is offered all over Canada by different training providers. The curriculum may vary slightly, but all follow the guidelines set by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. Ottawa First Aid provides students one of the best TDG courses in Canada. Our high quality course is coupled with very affordable training fees, making us a very popular choice among trainees in the city.

Classroom-based TDG Course

Ottawa First Aid offers a classroom TDG course monthly. It has nine units and costs 49.99 dollars. The program focuses on different hazardous materials and dangerous goods (those considered dangerous by the Canadian government, called “controlled substances”) and how to manage should an accident occur. Transportation of these substances is very risky, because unlike the factory where emergency response systems are in place, when an accident happens during transport, the handler will only have a few other workers to help him manage the situation. Sometimes, handlers who transport dangerous goods are alone – making emergency management even more difficult.

Online TDG Training

Online training for TDG is also available on our website. Like the classroom course, it has nine modules. Each module is composed of an extensive session, with a short test at the end. To proceed to the next module, the students have to pass the test first. Online training costs cheaper, at 29.99 dollars.

This program is preferred by trainees who work or go to class during the day. In an online course, you have full control over the pace of your learning.

Basic First Aid

When accidents involving hazardous material occur, workers usually get physical injuries. Because of this, we include basic first aid in the TDG course. First aid for burns, cuts, and other similar injuries are taught in both the online and classroom course. Extensive training on first aid is available in our First Aid training courses.

You can find a full list of our TDG schedules below. Online enrollment is also possible by using the online application form. If you decide to enroll online, your slot for the class will only be confirmed during the next day. Other students prefer enrolling in person at the Ottawa First Aid facility so their slots will be confirmed immediately.

TDG Credentials

Whether you take online or classroom TDG training, you will be awarded a training credential upon successful completion of the program. Credentials for this program do not expire like certificates for other programs. If you feel like you need an update, you are encouraged to sign for training again. You opt to not take the certification exam in this scenario.
